Meander

Today on Maths craft we made a meander. Meander is a repeated pattern or motif, usually constructed from a continuous line. A "broken" or "hook" meanders are not formed from one continuous line but instead contain a series of gaps or breaks.

This is the one that I made.

What am I learning?
I'm learning what a meander is and how to make it.

How characters are developed in a film

Character Name:
A Challenge faced by the character
How the character reacted
What that shows us about the character.
Draco

He has to sacrifice himself in order to finally defeat King Einon, because they share the same heart.
He is willing to sacrifice himself to defeat King Einon.
This shows us that he is willing to sacrifice himself for his friends.
Bowen

He has to kill his friend Draco in order to kill Einon and defeat him.
He reacts by quickly overcoming them and thinking on the positive side of it.
This show how much his friendship with Draco meant to him.
Kara

Einon killed her father when she asked Einon to free her father.
Kara tried to get revenge by trying to kill Einon.
That shows us that Kara cares a lot about her father.
Einon

Draco and Bowen lead the peasants to rebel against him.
He took it as a real threat and when some of his soldiers are loosing they went back to the castle.
This shows us that Einon isn’t as fearless and cruel as the audience might think

The plot of the film

What am I learning?

Understand the importance of settings to a film

The setting of the Dragonheart movie was in European country Slovakia, particularly the east of Slovakia. The filming of the movie began in 1994 and was released in 1996. The movie was set in the 10th century. There were peasants, Kings, and princesses. The peasants back then were enslaved to build the royalties castle, farm foods for them and use them for other ways. We see this in the film once Einon became the king and used the peasants to rebuild his castle.

What am I learning?
I am learning the importance of settings to a film.

How does this show my learning?
This shows my learning because I learned why is the setting important for a film.

What am I wondering as a result of this learning?
I am wondering what difference would it make if the settings were different.

Purpose of Camera Angles, Movement and Shots.

In Dragonheart, mid shot is used effectively. This is demonstrated during the battle scene between
King Einon and Bowen. This shows that King Einon had the advantage over Bowen showing that
all of the things that Bowen teach Einon during their training has been effective. This was done to
show that these two characters have formed a hatred towards each other. Coinciding with the shot
was the music in the background, making the scene more intense. This can be juxtaposed to the
earlier part of the movie when Bowen is training Einon and Bowen had the upper hand on Einon.

In Dragonheart long shots are used effectively. We see this when Bowen and Draco the Dragon
are against the sunset. This shows that Bowen and the Dragon have created a bond that will have
an impact later on in the film. The purpose of this is to show the bond between them and show the
audience the change of the relationship between the two characters. Combined with this is the
music. This aspect can be compared to the moment later on to the film when Bowen had to kill
Draco in order to kill Einon.

In Dragonheart, mid shot is used effectively. For Example, they used mid shot during the scene
where King Einon has a sword on Kara’s neck. This makes us understand that Einon had the
upper hand because any movement that Bowen does can kill Kara. This was done to show that
Einon would do anything to win the battle between him and Bowen. This worked well with the red
tint on the light which made the scene frightening. This reminds me of the earlier part of the film
where Einon captured Kara.

In Dragonheart close-up are used effectively to show emotions. We see this when Bowen is
training Einon to be a king that respects his people. This shows that Bowen cares who will be the
next king and Einon just wants to be the king. This was done to show that Einon will not be a
good king. This worked well with the cheerful music. This reminds me of the later part when Einon
was the King.

What am I learning?
I'm learning the different types of camera techniques used in films.

How does this work show my learning?
By making these I know how the different camera techniques look like

What am I wondering as a result of this learning?
What is the most common camera technique that they use for filming?
